this morning as los angeles survives carmageddon 2. that was the nickname given to an intense repair project this weekend that shut down a ten-mile stretch of interstate 405. l.a. drivers were asked to plan accordingly and weekend traffic was reported to be light. >>> we have breaking news right now. in alabama, tornado warning issued for part of that state. let's get right to rob marciano. what can you tell us, rob? >> just issued from the national weather service. a tornado warning for coffey county in southeast, alabama, near elba moving toward the northeast. no reports on the ground but certainly a dangerous situation. we will see more of these likely as we go through the day today. lots of moisture coming in from the gulf of mexico and a fairly dynamic system for this time of year that's going to be rolling across the southeast. the rain shield itself is stretching across the tennessee valley into the piedmont and across the southern appalachians. some of this has been and will continue to be fairly beneficial rain. so we'll take it. texas in some cases across west texas, they saw more

des moines. they both join us now from los angeles. our first question to you is why? why do this? why go out as a fake voter and make this documentary? >> well, first of all, i wouldn't wall it a documentary. we made this film. in an election season we see how polarized politics is in the u.s. we wanted to have a conversation about, you know, the gap between campaign trail rhetoric and people like janeane from des moines. >> you look at these swing states and it's well documented. people in campaign rallies with hidden cameras, ambush reporters. you've got lots and lots of coverage from inside and outside the campaigns. what does your film, if it's not a documentary then, a mockumentary. what does it show that people weren't getting from all other forms of media covering the election? >> where is this gap between the campaign trail rhetoric from politicians and everyday reality of people like janeane. we really wanted to explore, you know, what would happen if somebody like janeane, a conservative, had to face the contradiction in her life? the story, she basically losing everything.

countries in the past made the same error. norman angel wrote a book in 1910 how irrational it was to all these powers went to war, four years before the great powers went to war. i guess when i think about the american role is we'll not be able to predict the future. we should not be in a panic about china but we do have to do what is possible to discourage them from taking the wrong course and encourage them taking the right course which is why basically the consistent policy of this administration and many previous administrations has been right. there is an element of containment or hedging or what have you that says we will back up these countries if, if you push too hard but we also do welcome you into this international system under the terms that happen to be, i hate telling other countries what is in their interests but happens to be in china's interest to rise as the peaceful scenario suggests. >> to pick up on one point, if you look toward china's behavior toward taiwan i think is real contrast how they're dealing with islands. for many years the relationship with taiwan, come
